Physics Topics - Torque & Circular Motion (D)
Torque & Circular Motion

1. Content/Notes

        - Basic Torque Notes - Reviews the basic concepts of calculating torque and torque equilibrium.

        - Torque at an Angle - Reviews how to calculate Torque when the applied force is not perpendicular.

        - Torque and Sign Notation - Explains Torque concepts and terms as well as explaining torque sign notation.

       - Torque Powerpoint - a powepoint that describes torque and rotational inertia.

       - Centripetal Force & Acceleration - A summary of centripetal force and its formulas.

       - Angular Components of Motion - A summary of the distance, velocity, and acceleration measured on an object rotating about an axis.

2. Videos

        - Torque Video - demonstrates what torque is as well as shows the basic concepts (also goes slightly into angular kinematics).

        - Levers - A demonstration of how levers work and how the concepts of torque apply to them.

        - Centripetal Force - Centripetal Force at a theme park

3. Applets

        - Torque App - Change the mass and distance from fulcrum of a mass on a board to examine the amount of torque generated.

        - Wrench - adjust the direction and magnitude of a force on a wrench to see the magnitude of the torque created.

        - Lever - Demonstrates equilibrium as well as how distance affects torque.

        - Carousel Applet - A demonstration of centripetal force in relation to a carousel's properties.

4. Games

        - Castle Clout - Use a catapult to take out walls and cause the ceilings of the castle to collapse.

        - Bam Blox - Try to balance torque enough to eliminate the blue boxes, allowing the red boxes to remain.

        - Bubble Quod - After level one, some torque is involved in getting to the end of the level. You must pop your baloon at the end of the level to move on to the next one. Level 5 is a great example.

5. Sample Problems & Solutions

        - Sample Equilibrium problems - These problems deal with torque and equilibrium, answers and work are included below each problem.

        - Torque Problems - Several problems testing your knowledge on torque (hint for the first few: only force normal creates torque).
        - More Torque Problems - more extra practice on torque.

6. Pictures/Visual Aids

        - Nasa Diagram - Shows torque in four different settings.

        - Torque vs. RPM Graph - Torque in four different engines relative to the Revolutions per minute.

         - Torque Diagrams - An explanation of torque along with diagrams. It also explains a couple other properties of physics and how they correlate with one another to work in an engine.

        - Equation Chart - A chart comparing the equations of linear movement and Angular movement.

These two forces of different values have the same amount of torque because of their distance from the pivot point.
